Meerstad is a beautiful green neighbourhood in Groningen, located on the east side of the city. The neighbourhood is dominated by water, space and greenery.
The Parkhoven project consists of earthquake-proof homes built from bricks made of Groningen clay. Behind carefully detailed facades is a sustainable wooden building system that makes these houses earthquake-resistant. FARO designed a plan with two distinctive sides. On the south side, the park houses line up along the Woldmeer lake. On the other side, the houses face a courtyard where wooden verandas provide a warm and intimate atmosphere.
Parkhoven consists of a varied mix of houses. Douglas wood cladding was chosen for some of the house types and for the wooden verandas in the plan.
The Douglas wood parts supplied by Pontmeyer Winschoten are first treated by Leegwater Wood Preparation with Woodlife HL50, then fire-retardant impregnated with Flame Delay PT and then colour-finished Colorseen Timberstain FR and Colorsoon Acrylic Stain Matt.
